About us

UNEEK Magazine has the honour of being the first Multicultural Women’s Magazine for All Australian Women. Our publication aims to be a self-empowerment guide that consists of developing and supporting the diversity of multicultural women in our communities. We encourage resilience, self-efficacy and a sense of hope for the future. On the surface UNEEK’s format may appear to be similar to other publications already on the market, in that it is designed to appeal to a contemporary, primarily female audience, but the difference is in the content. UNEEK Magazine provides insights to people, subjects and topics that are not currently known of or addressed for many African-Australians, Indigenous, Asian, European, South and Central Americans, or other women of colour. This of course is true also for ethnic women who are migrants from Western countries, Europeans, Eastern European sectors and the Middle East.

UNEEK Magazine was formed in 2007 by a small group of volunteers spearheaded by Shena Pinto. In August of 2008 the first issue of UNEEK was released.

Target Audience:

UNEEK Magazine appeals to a broad socioeconomic base of people from Australian, African, Indigenous, Asia Pacific, European, Middle Eastern and many other multicultural backgrounds. We are targeting women from the ages of 25 to 65 years, with diverse backgrounds who are living in cities, suburbs and regional areas, from professional, entrepreneurial business women to housewives; to the confident and comfortable, to those who are struggling and in need of motivation and support. Women working hard to create successful careers can offer support based on their journey and experiences to help others do the same.

Mission Statement:

Our core mission is to catalyse and empower multicultural women and communities in Australia to achieve their personal and professional goals by providing the essential resources and support services that nourish their minds, bodies and souls.

Why me, Why not me?

UNEEK Magazine was born with my frustration and disillusionment with what was on offer each month at the newsagents. I got annoyed at having to buy a variety of magazines to satisfy my multicultural interests. I was fed up with the mono cultural portrayal of women. Where were the real women, the real issues affecting them, and the diverse and culturally rich world that I live in? It certainly was not shown there in the bundle of magazines sitting on the passenger seat of my car.

As a wife and mother I am busy juggling various demands – often simultaneously. Planning dinner in the car as I taxi the kids to and from school or sport, or pegging out a load of washing while I talk on the telephone. There was never enough time each month to pick through numerous magazines to find the articles that interest me. I am fully aware of this but it doesn’t stop me from buying this monthly collection and I continue to do it month after month!

I asked myself three years ago why there couldn’t be just one magazine with everything that I wanted in it. I could create a multicultural magazine that celebrated womanhood in all its sizes, colours, shapes and dispositions.

Following many months of hard work, researching and creating the perfect multicultural magazine, UNEEK was born.

I don’t regret asking “Why not me?

I’m proud of the content you will find between the cover and hope you too will embrace and enjoy the first Multicultural women’s Magazine for all Australian women. This is truly a UNEEK Experience!
